Dr. Jason Laker is a Professor of Higher Education, Student Affairs, and Community Development (and former Vice President for Student Affairs) at San José State University (a Federally-Designated Hispanic-Serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving University) in California. He is also an Affiliated Research Faculty with the Center for Research and Education on Gender and Sexuality at San Francisco State University studying sexual consent communication among college students.
Dr. Laker previously served as AVP & Dean of Student Affairs, Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Democracy, and on the Gender Studies Faculty at Queen’s University in Canada. He holds an M.A. in Community Counseling and received a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona’s Center for the Study of Higher Education, where he also served as Director of Business Programs and Workforce Development. He is a prolific scholar in areas such as Higher Education and Student Affairs, Civic and Democratic Education, Gender and social identity development, and mindfulness and contemplative pedagogies and practices.
